1) General introduction to the course, Textbooks, What is solid state physics? Electrons as waves, De Broglie relation, derivation of the uncertainty relation
2) Crystal structures, diffraction of electron waves, bands, analogy to atoms and molecules, Schroedinger equation, particle in a box states/free electron model, density of states, Fermi energy
3) Band structure of real materials Si, GaAs..., direct and indirect bandgaps, effective mass, holes, Intrinsic semiconductors,number of electrons in the conduction band, number of holes in the valence band, temperature dependence of the Fermi energy
4) Extrinsic semiconductors, majority - minority carriers, generation-recombination, doping, Fermi level in extrinsic semiconductors
5) Carrier transport (classical model), Drift and diffusion, Quantum model qualitatively (Boltzmann equation)
